Changing dynamics and sources of security threats to modern world demand innovative defence technology and capabilities if the world is to be a safer place. Pakistan having an exhibited potential in innovative defence technologies and production is meeting its domestic defence production needs and has developed its potential for export. With this double benefit while Pakistan has a potential of earning foreign exchange by getting its share of the global defence market, it has already been saving a substantial amount erstwhile spent on defence imports.
In this context, it is necessary to analyze Pakistan’s defence production, exports, challenges and opportunities. Additionally, we have to look for innovative ways to work with the international community to get our share of the global export market and to promote our image as a peace-loving country.
Pakistan is exporting defence products and has a good reputation in the global defence market as a result of its affordable technologies, stringent quality control, competitive prices and effective after sales services. Keeping in view the export potential of Pakistan defence industry, Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) is organizing a two-day Conference on 28-29 November 2017 on the topic of “Pakistan Deference industry: Export potential, Challenges and Prospects” and would be attended by experts from home and abroad.
The conference aims at inviting policy and decision makers, defence industry experts, engineers, academia, think tanks, media and other stakeholders. The proceedings of various sessions will provide an analyzed and synthesized review of Pakistan defence industry’s exports potential, challenges and prospects. The experts will give specific recommendations for a draft marketing framework leading Pakistan to get its fair share in the global defence production market.
